On Wednesday, May 18th Dunnville Secondary School’s Law class traveled to downtown Hamilton to visit the John Sopinka Court House. The class observed a fraud case that dealt with investments at the Superior Court level. The Law class, taught by Kathy Maciuk, went to the court house to see the application of what they learn in class as well as the processes in the court and the difference between what the students see on television compared to reality. “The trial was not overly exciting for the class because it was a fraud case and had terms that the class may not have been familiar with,” stated Maciuk, “however I enjoyed it, and I like taking my classes there.” The trip is done annually by Maciuk, this being her fifth time taking the students since she began teaching Law. Although the day may not have been as exciting as some of the students may have hoped, it was an opportunity for them to observe a real trial, ask the judge questions and learn from the experience.
