DSS Brings back the Classics

D.S.S. Brings Back the Classics!
Emily Cochrane
Dunnville

Dunnville Secondary School’s cafeteria was the place to be on Wednesday, May 18 for the classical performance of a lifetime. Tickets were sold for $10 each for this classic treat and $180 was raised in total to go towards the D.S.S. Breakfast Program which enables students to enjoy a healthy and free snack daily. About 40 people attended this classical concert where D.S.S. students Shelby Ricker on the violin, Colin Carpenter on the guitar, and Derek Gibbs on the guitar entertained the audience with their musical talents. Other incredible performers included Shawn Haines on guitar, David McLean on violin, Connor Dockrill on piano, and Terry McLean and his students on the violin. D.S.S. teacher Kevin Dockrill had this original idea of bringing back classical music to the community and organized this event. Dockrill feels that classical music has survived in a way that no other music has and he wanted to praise all of the musicians who graciously performed at the concert.
“The musicians worked really hard and prepared themselves thoroughly, they were all excellent and I was pleased to give the students an opportunity to perform this genre of music due to the fact that they cannot perform classical elsewhere.”
Grade 12 student and musician Colin Carpenter felt that the night went very well and he wanted to commend David McLean for his incredible musical talents.
“It was definitely a show to remember; David McLean is a very talented violinist, and most people would have to pay a lot of money to see someone with such a talented skill set like him.”
There is another opportunity to see these talented musicians perform on Thursday, June 2 in the D.S.S. cafeteria. The tickets will be $10 each and all proceeds will be going towards Dunnville’s Breakfast Program. The genre of the concert will be classic rock. The community is encouraged to come out and support D.S.S. and enjoy some rockin’ tunes.
