Outlook Good for Panthers Volleyball

The senior girls volleyball team was finalized on Thursday, November 24 with 11 girls making the cut. Approximately 20 girls from grade 11 and 12 tried out for the team throughout the last few weeks. There were five unofficial "get-togethers", as tryouts for girls volleyball cannot officially begin until the girl basketball season is over. It was a bit difficult for both to be at the same time, and a member of the volleyball team, Paige Williams said, "We started earlier this season, and it was overlapping with basketball, so the turnout wasn't so good." This allowed coach Kurt Lohrum to view the girls' skills and strengths in order to put together a team as early as possible. Although the season has barely begun, the outlook for the team looks very good and there is much potential in all of the players. Paige Williams said, "I see potential in all of the players, and as the season goes on I think that we will develop team skills and hopefully be undefeated." The team's coach also believes that the team can do well this year, as long as the can play as a team and refine certain skills. "The hitting is O.K., but the setting has to get better. They need to start working as a team now, when so far they've been working on individual skills during tryouts," said Lohrum. Luckily the team has plenty of time to build the team concept among them, and work on other skills, because they started so early. The team's first game has not been scheduled yet, but when they do play for the first time together, they are very likely to do well.
