Members of the Dunnville Secondary School (DSS) wrestling team participated in their first competition of the season. The tournament was held on Friday, November 18 in Hagersville, with 22 schools attending and 250 wrestlers competing. All of DSS' 14 wrestlers that went won matches and placed in the top five in their weight class. The team performed well, with Jamie Stinson and Andrew Dejong placing fifth, Taylor Cavers and Cody Fairbairn placing fourth. Winning bronze medals were Mitchell Patterson, Trevor Howard and Darla Graves, all with three wins and only one loss. Silver medals were won by Hunter Ward, Nick Thibault, Andrew Sampson, and Eric Lymburner. Bringing back gold medals were Scott Powers, Jimmie Richard and Jesse Lahaise. The wrestlers more than surpassed coach Scott Smith's hope of winning a couple medals, with a total of 10 medals won. This was a great start to the season, and the team is sure to improve, hopefully bringing back more medals in future competitions. The wrestlers' have four tournaments coming up in the next month and a half, the next one being on Saturday, December 3.
