Students who want a little more relaxation and positivity from their high school experience now have a way to help that happen- with yoga!
Yoga is a new extra-curricular activity now available to Dunnville Secondary School students of all ages. Yoga is a Hindu spiritual and ascetic discipline, a part of which, including breath control, simple meditation, and the adoption of specific bodily postures, is widely practiced for health and relaxation.
It was started and is now run by Jessica Bell, a teacher at Dunnville Secondary School. Yoga takes place in room 121, two to three times a week for periods of thirty to forty-five minutes. “There are many benefits that yoga provides that help improve our everyday lives,” said Bell. Yoga helps increase focus, flexibility, positive attitude, and overall health. It also offers a great alternative to sports for students who wish take part in after-school activities.
So far the turnout for yoga has been a relative success, with various groups and ages of students all attending for the simple purpose of relaxing and feeling better. Every yoga class has an open door policy, allowing any student who is interested to come in and take part in the relaxation.
With exams and final projects on the way, now is a better time than ever for students to take advantage of this great opportunity to experience the healthy and relaxing benefits of yoga. Yoga can help students who are feeling stressed feel better, healthier, and more focused in their studies. It is a great recreational activity with many positive benefits.
