This year’s prom committee has decided to invoke a little competition between the students of Dunnville Secondary School (DSS). Last week five students; Damien Lalonde, Josh Fester, Ben Stanley, Becca Surridge, and Jessica Palmer, signed up to participate in this year’s prom fundraiser.
The "Pie in the Face" fundraiser continued from Tuesday, February 21st until Friday, February 24th and consisted of multiple vases labelled with the participating student’s names. From here, students were welcomed to make donations towards the students they wanted to see get a pie in their face.
On Tuesday, Fester took the lead but by the next day Stanley had made an astonishing break through collecting over fourteen dollars, with Lalonde struggling behind with just over eight dollars. Throughout the week Stanley continued to raise the most money making him the winner by Friday. Stanley managed to raise the prom committee $28.08, making him receive a pie in his face on Friday during the lunch period. Lalonde as the runner up raised $19.06, and Fester landed in third place with $10.13.
When speaking with Danielle McMahon, a member of this year’s prom committee, she explained, “This event was a fun way to lower the ticket costs of this year’s prom while at the same time creating a fun lunch period for all the students at DSS.” The group plans to continue fundraising through a variety of different events, including next week’s pie in the face for the teachers.
This event raised a total of $65.87 throughout the duration of four days, which will make a very positive contribution to this year’s annual prom to be held on May 4th, 2012 at Club Roma.
The prom committee would like to send a big thank you to all who donated and for those who helped to make this event successful.
