Pie in the Face Prom Fundraiser

Taylor Rowe

The Dunnville Secondary School Prom Committee has been hard at work raising money for the senior prom this upcoming May. One of the fundraisers they coordinated this past week became known as “Pie in the Face - teacher version.”
Monday to Thursday during lunch hour, the Prom Committee sat outside of the cafeteria with five jars, each labelled with a staff member's name. Student threw their spare change into the jar that corresponded with the teacher who they would most like to see a pie be thrown in their face. The teacher with the most money in their jar by Friday, March 2, would receive a pie thrown in their face by a student.
Principal Greg Carruthers, teachers Jan St. Denis and Drew Spence, Educational Assistant Shelly Schmidt, and Vice Principal Jayne Chalmers were the lucky candidates.
It turned out that with over thirty dollars in her jar, Chalmers was the victim of the pie in the face. Students then put their name into a draw to throw the pie. Katryna Drouin was the lucky winner.
“I can't believe I won...or lost,” said Chalmers. She said that the pie was much colder than she had anticipated and that she couldn't believe how many people came out to watch.
