Students Prepare for Semi Formal

Carlin Dykstra

The Dunnville Secondary School (DSS) Students' Council works hard year after year to plan events and activities for the student body to participate in throughout the school year. Their most recent project is to plan the semi formal dance to take place on April 4.
After debating a few different theme ideas, they finally decided on a Party Rock theme. Decorations for this include animal print banners, colourful lights, sunglasses, and photo booth backdrops.
The tickets are sold for $12 to cover the costs of the DJ, police officers to chaperone, fruit and cheese trays, paint, and decoration material. The Students' Council are very dedicated to the semi formal dance and have many days after school planned to paint banners, create posters, and make decorations.
“We decided on the Party Rock theme because we know that it is a popular thing right now, especially the music and the videos,” said one of the organizers, Erin Roberts. “Most students recognize it and we hoped that it would be something to increase attendance as well.”
Third year student council member Brenda Reid said that attendance to the semi formal dances have increased dramatically in the last two years. She thinks that the more effort that is put into the dances, the more students will attend.
Many thanks are given out to the teachers who give up their nights to come to the dances and chaperone; without them, the events that are planned would never be able to become possible.
