It’s that time of year again. The grade 12 students at Dunnville Secondary School (DSS) are anxiously waiting to hear back from the schools they have applied to.
Most of the colleges have sent out their acceptances already. The students who applied to university however, may have to play the waiting game. All universities are different and they send out their acceptances based on a number of different things. Some programs are based solely on marks and the students who applied to these programs have most likely heard from them already. Other programs require certain courses, extra work, interviews, portfolios, etc. The programs requiring any of these aspects often take longer to hear from. Some schools are also waiting for students’ midterm marks to see how they are doing in certain programs this semester.
All colleges must be accepted or declined by May first and all universities by June first. The guidance counsellor at DSS, Donna McMahon, helps students through this process every year. “It’s an exciting yet stressful time for the students. We try to help them through the application process and with any questions they may have.”
