The grade ten students of Dunnville Secondary School (DSS) buckled down on Thursday, March 29, to write the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT).
The OSSLT is a mandatory examination that every high school student must complete before graduation. Students are tested on their reading, thinking and application, and communication skills.
During the week prior to the test, study sessions were set up for students to prepare for the questions on the examination. Some types of questions on the test included multiple choice, and an essay question.
“The test included questions regarding proper use of grammar and punctuation, as well as an essay question on teens and the time that they spend focused on their wardrobe,” said Madison Dykstra, a grade ten student who wrote the test on Thursday.
Any students who were not writing the test were excused from school until when classes resumed for the afternoon.
