On Monday, March 5th the Dunnville Secondary School (DSS) Wilderness Trail Blazers class went on a one day trip to River Road, South Cayuga. This trip was so the students could plant wetland seeds to restore the vegetation along Pike Creek. The group, led by Mark McCormack, spent the morning planting seeds and enjoying the fresh air. The goal is to produce a natural environment so that different species can come and live here. “It was really nice to know that we were helping out the environment,” said Carly Terhoek, a student in grade 12, “and we took a nice walk afterwards which was great!” The students spread many seeds that morning. “The day went very well,” said McCormack. “We had beautiful weather and the kids had fun.” The group plans on doing much more planting in the environment and many more nature-based activities in the remainder of the semester.
